Whether you blasted Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want for Christmas’ on November 1st, set your tree up Thanksgiving weekend, or have just started decorating for Christmas this 1st weekend in December, I hope that you think about the pace you want to set this holiday season.
I started wrapping some of the Christmas presents that I have purchased so far. I needed a break so I went for a brisk walk. While I was walking I was thinking about how much we wait in anticipation for Christmas day. How children want nothing more than for Santa to come, or how we need to budget and plan ahead to give gifts to the loved ones in our lives. Sometimes we get so carried away with the planning and preparing that we forget to enjoy the process. We wish so much for the day to come that we wish away the time that we could be enjoying preparing for the special days to come.
Do you think you are moving too fast through the beginning of the holiday season that you are going to feel like you blinked and it will be all over?
Take a second and breathe. Think about what you smell, taste, see, hear, and feel as you go through this next month. Journal about what you are experiencing or about what you hope to experience to help you be more aware of what really matters to you this year. What you hope to experience and enjoy this holiday may be different than years past, and that is okay.
I was talking to a few different people about how we all decided that this year it is okay not to bring out all of the Christmas decorations we own. We all decided to bring out just enough to make us happy and be okay with not having too too many things to put away a month or two later. We can enjoy the holiday no matter how much or how little we decide to decorate our homes. We decided to get our pace set with less stress as we prepared. How you set your pace matters. It is not too late to change it if you are unhappy with what you have set yourself up to be. Embrace the season and enjoy the process as we all get ready for another Christmas.
Time for me to continue wrapping gifts while watching Hallmark Christmas movies! Cheers!
