A Time to Continue

As the year is about to come to a close, some people will encourage you to have a new beginning. To start a new habit, work towards new goals, stop doing a bad habit, or start something that you know will not last longer than the first month of the new year. I want to encourage you to continue.

Continue working, learning, traveling, crafting, writing, or whatever makes your heart sing. Continuing is something that we always do, but do not often talk about. We talk about starting new habits, or breaking bad habits. We talk about starting to be healthy or starting to lose weight. We talk about setting goals knowing that we may or may not actually follow through with them.

How about we take on 2024 and continue.

Even though the calendar will be changing, it does not mean that we need to completely change who we are and how we live over night. (It is kind of like when you are a kid – It is your birthday party. You have only been 10 for a few hours, and someone asks you if you feel any older… I always thought that was an odd question.)

In 2024, we will have to switch to writing out the months as __/__/24. We will have to start a new planner and or calendar if we use the paper versions – our phones just keep on scrolling to what is next. You may decide to set a goal and achieve it which will be awesome! Remember that it is enough to continue living your life just as you are now.

I say this because I have done both. I have set New Year’s resolutions and completed them, and I have set New Year’s resolutions that it takes me a couple of years to actually get them, and I have set New Year’s resolutions that I come nowhere close to achieving. This year continuing to balance work, life, dance, writing, chores and socializing is enough for me to continue this year. I get to continue to do the things I enjoy, love the people I spend time with, and learn new things about myself and the people around me. That is enough.
