One week ago I woke up excited to be in Vegas for another day! This was a day where things maybe didn’t go as planned, but we made the most of it. I stayed calm and confident as plans changed – which I normally need a plan and stick to it. My sister and I stuck together and made the best of an odd situation.
It was a Tuesday. We had woken up, got coffee for both today and for tomorrow as Wednesday was the day we went to the Grand Canyon. We had an early bus tour and need coffee in the morning, so we bought ahead. We did some shopping, and then met up with everyone to head out to the Aria for lunch. We had some really good pizza, and then we walked around. Being in the Paris hotel, we got to go to the swimming pool that was on the roof top just at the base of the Eiffel Tower. It was cool! I was done after an hour and went back to the room. It was about 3pm, and we had 8pm tickets to the Neon Museum, so we had time to kill. We got ready for the night, found an Uber and went to the art district.
Little did we know that Tuesday afternoons were not popular at the art district. The gallery we had gone to see only had one artist that we saw there. The Burlesque Museum closed at 5, so when we got there at 4:45 they said we would not have enough time to see the whole thing. We went to a bar to grab a drink as we were not hungry from having a big lunch. We then discovered that there was a free bus that went from the art district to Fremont Street, and it closed at 6, and the last loop was coming by us in 7 minutes. So we said cheers, bottoms up, and got on the free bus just in time. The bus driver was early for the next stop, so we pulled over, and he gave us some tips about how it would be wise to leave Fremont St before 8pm, and to not leave the Neon Museum as there was a homeless shelter right there, and it would be sketchy.
After deciding to not go to Fremont St just the two of us, we ended up going to Fremont St. We found a place to eat at The Golden Nugget, walked around, and then got another Uber and went off to the Neon Boneyard. — Which was the best part of the day!
Different from what we had already experienced on the trip, we had learned lots of history in the tour. Many things started after prohibition/ 1933-1934. Some of the signs they had restored from those early years, others are from more resent years that just have been redone. There were two of Aladdin’s lamps, a Treasure Island scull, along with other random letters just stacked up against each other. Some of them lit, while others in the back where not just laying there. It was fascinating.
After getting some souvenirs, we grabbed one last Uber back to the wrong place. We got dropped off at the Caesar’s Forum shops instead of Caesar’s Palace. We wanted to watch the Bellagio fountains, but were way in the wrong spot. Thankfully God placed a security guard right by where we got dropped off from the Uber lady. He was able to point us across the street to an elevator that took us to the monorail which we had previously taken to get around, so thankfully we knew where we were! I was too tired and my feet hurt, so we headed back to the hotel instead of watching the fountain shows… so we thought.
We, on our third night, discovered that we could see the very right side of the fountains along with the reflection of the rest of the fountains in the hotel next to us. HAHAHA we laughed and freaked out so much! We then watched the shows every 15 minutes as we got ready for bed and for leaving early in the morning for our bus tour for the next day.
What could have been a disaster of a day, ended up with laughter and a fun time. We made the most of what we had for time by adjusting when needed. We got to see the art district even though there was not much happening there. We got to see Fremont Street, and did so safely. We dodged the clowns successfully. Again, found awe in the large neon light displays that were mostly older than us.
If there was one day that we would have to adjust and go with the flow, it was this day. It is nice to have structure. It is nice to be spontaneous. It is not often that you get to have both in one day, but I had a lot of fun with it. We got to see more than what we originally planned. It made for a day of what are now memories.
I challenge you to find ways to have a plan and also be spontaneous in your day to day life. Be willing to go with the flow, but also have a time when you have somewhere to be. Both can exist at the same time. That’s what makes life an adventure.
Cheers – Em
