A Time to go ‘Running Up That Hill’

Even though the song ‘Running Up That Hill’ by Kate Bush is popular from the show ‘Stranger Things,’ the characters really bike more than they run. I was trying to decide if I should walk, run or bike this morning, but when I saw that it was almost 90 degrees and going to storm this afternoon — I knew biking was going to be best. 7 miles and a few small hills later…

Some good things that come to mind, no matter if you listen super closely to the words, you may think about doing one or all of the following…

1. Get outside where you may or may not have hills.

Even though it was really hot, really humid, and always mostly flat here in Wisconsin, it felt so good to get outside after working inside all week. I usually get outside to walk a few times each week, but there has been construction work (go figure) on my road so I have not been getting out lately. I am glad I went out today, and sweat off more than normal.

2. Exercise

I have successfully done a barre class once a week for the last two months!! I am so proud of myself for making this progress, and I can tell that both physically and mentally I am doing better from getting out of my apartment to exercise and be with people for the hour each week. I am going to try to be intentional about now adding in bike riding or running as I am about to have a break from teaching dance classes and need to keep up with moving especially now that I have a desk job.

3. God and your relationship or lack of relationship with him.

Whether or not you ‘make deals with God’ I hope that you talk to Him. He wants us to. He talks back in the Bible/ His Word, and sometimes through different things that happen to us in life. Usually I see His hand in my life when I look back at what I prayed for, reflect on what happened, and put together where they interconnect. God always has things turn out better than I thought possible even if I don’t always understand it in the moment.

4. Sit, relax and watch Stranger Things.

It is so good to plan time to relax both physically and mentally. Binging shows can be unhealthy; however, it is okay to have the mental escape from life and forget about your own problems. It is healthy to at some point deal with and work through your problems rather than pushing them aside all of the time. Finding a balance between the two is a good thing to do as both are needed.

I watched all 4 seasons of ‘Stranger Things’ within two and a half weeks. I am not ashamed. Watching shows is how I relax and escape from life for 1-5 hours at a time. I usually do my dishes or clean at some point if I am doing a longer stretch of watching a show on a weekend or day off.

There are so many things in life to think deeper on. I hope you enjoy reading my variety of topics that I choose as I explore in writing as I practice for eventually writing a book.

As always, thanks for reading! Cheers! – Em
