A Time to Update Your Wardrobe

When was the last time you really updated the clothes that you wear? Are you a seasonal wardrobe changer? Does the weather change every season where you live like it does here in Wisconsin? What does your wardrobe say about you?

I have seen many influencers on Instagram who have seasonal/ color coordinating wardrobes that they change out a few times a year. I have always only had summer and winter wardrobe where I switch out my shorts and sweatshirts from having a main place in my closet. After finishing my last day with Starbucks, I decided that it was time to rearrange my closet.

As I am changing my career path, I am going from black t-shirts and jeans to corporate casual for my day job. I will still get to wear my normal dance attire while I teach, however I do update that every few months with a new item or three. I started out making sure I have two interview outfits. Then I went and grabbed what I could find at some rummage sales around town. I also sold a lot of the clothes that were still nice that I had had since college in my internship. Ones that I had worn in too many family gathering pictures are gone. I then needed a few more interview outfits as I had multiple in the same week, so I went to a few stores around town to find pieces on clearance that I could add to my new look. This weekend I am going to do some more shopping to make sure I have enough pieces to intermix for the first month or so until I know more about how much I will be moving around versus on a computer compared to what I have been doing.

Last weekend I went to a wedding of a friend who is family, and I wore this jumpsuit that I had purchased for $12 on clearance a few months ago. I was not sure that it was my best option. I had not worn it yet, and thought it looked good with the color scheme of the wedding, but I was nervous. I then realized that sometimes it doesn’t matter what clothes we wear. What matters is the confidence that we have in the clothing choices we make. I got a few compliments on that jumpsuit and felt like it was worth the risk to wear something a little different that was also very comfortable. *It even had pockets!

I am also a little nervous about changing my career path. Learning a whole new realm of work is going to be a challenge, but an exciting one. Getting new clothes is a lot of work, but I still get to be me. No matter what clothes I pick to create a look for myself won’t change my faith, knowledge, worth, or skill set in any way. Being comfortable while looking professional is the name of the game. I have received lots of messages and cards about remembering you are worth the change. You are worth something better. You are worth more than you give yourself credit for. — The same is true for you.

Make the change you have been thinking about making. Mine took me a few years to actually go through with the change. It is never too late. Whether you start with your hair, clothes, career path, place of living, you name it – you are worth changing for. Find a place of comfort, happiness, and love. It will not be easy to make the change, and you may have to save money first. Take one step at a time.

Pray, and see how God will bless you along the way.

Be confident.

Know your worth.

A little nervousness can be a good thing – it helps us remember that we are only human.

Cheers to making changes both in your wardrobe and in life.
