A Time for Tea

(I kind of can’t believe I have not used this title yet.)

Anyways, hi! I am back. Life – wow is kind of wild as I am sure it is for you, too right about now. Whoever came up with the word “maycember” holy cow why did you have to be right?

Pictured is my new favorite corner of my living space – with freshly planted flowers that I hope to keep alive and a new patio rug that I am sitting on even though I have two perfectly fine and normal patio chairs. There is something about sitting down outside (even if you are not on the ground and on the second floor) that I have missed. I plan to do more sitting on the ground this summer.

I have not posted a blog post since February – I have no idea where the time has gone, truly. I always have good intentions of making time to write, and yet do not seem to ever really get around to it. Here I am showing up today to have another post. What have you been putting off in your life that you need to make space and show up for?

Oftentimes we all have good intentions to be the best at work, keep our living space clean, eat food that is good/healthy enough for us, be social, have time to at least walk if not go work out… whatever is on your list – it is okay to not get to everything today. Whatever you do not get to today will still be there for you to deal with tomorrow.

When you have so many to-do list items and you do not know where to start and you feel like you are frozen by so many things to do it is impossible to get that done and you just remembered something that you needed for yesterday and you need to put the milk back in the fridge and you had something on your face earlier and you can’t remember if you wiped it off and you forgot to look into the mirror the last time you went to the bathroom and you can’t remember when that was and and and (If you did not read that really fast, go back and read it again really fast as that is how I thought you would read it as I typed it.)

Pause.

Breathe. Inhale… hold… and exhale.

Then again. Inhale 1, 2, 3, 4, hold 1, 2, 3, 4, and exhale 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 (This part is intended to be slow, so if you were fast for this part… do it again and slowly.)

Make a list of all of the things on your mind that you need to do. Make a cup of tea while doing so.

Pick one thing off the list. Just one. Doesn’t matter if you pick from the top, middle or bottom – just pick one and get it done.

I’ll wait.

Great work! Now – do that again. Breathe. Take a sip of tea. Pick one thing to do. Do it. And repeat.

Make sure that at least one of the items on your list is something that is relaxing for you. (besides drinking tea) We all relax differently just like we all burn energy differently. Do what works for you and then pick another thing to do, or recognize what is okay to wait to finish the list tomorrow.

I often put too much pressure on myself to have my sh*t together (or at least I like to appear like I do.) At the end of the day, we are all only human. We only have so much time in a day. Every day we are not going to get everything right 100% of the time. And this is okay. Okay? (Yes, I am asking this to myself, but feel free to remind yourself that it is okay for you, too.)

Today, you will accomplish enough.

Today, you will do great things even if all you do today is be like a plant – drink water, shower, get some sunlight, and breathe.

Today you can do hard things.

Today you can wait and let your future self deal with the hard things.

Today you get to be you.

You get to be the person you want to be and not the person other people think you should be.

You get to do what you want to do. (Now some of us have to go to school or work or do something developmental which will only help us out, and then we get to do what we want to do after. Growth is important and comes in many ways including school and working for a paycheck which is another whole blog topic.)

Find a moment today to make time to do one thing that you love and enjoy doing. You can share that moment with someone you enjoy being around, or you can enjoy it all on your own. The choice is yours. Make it a joy filled choice.

Cheers to you for making it to this day, this moment, and for choosing to continue being you for as long as you can.

As they say to close VeggieTales, “God made you special and He loves you very much!”
