A Time for a Summer Storm

Do you like storms? This morning I woke up and heard some thunder outside when I was journaling. I took a deep breath and felt calm. Yesterday was Tuesday, but it very much felt like a sideways Monday. More than one person I talked to felt the same throughout the day.

When storms come and go, they clear the air. Storms are a nice reminder to take time to stay inside, but they can also be a reminder to let the fear, pain or heartache you are feeling to fall away like rain drops brushing against your cheek before hitting the ground.

There is a reason the saying “April showers bring May flowers.” It may be July, but these storms are going to be so nice for all of the grass, produce, and flowers that are outside living their best lives. Sometimes we go through storms in life figuratively along with literally. Just like I said before, sometimes with storms it is good to stay in and keep to yourself, while other times it is good to go out and let people know about the storm you are finding yourself in.

It is up to you on when you want to be alone versus when you want to let people in. You never have to tell everyone everything, but sometimes it is nice to have a couple of close friends to really share what is on your mind and stirring in your soul.

I have been reading and journaling a lot as I do not choose to share with everyone everything that I have been thinking and feeling, but I do think it is important to remember that everyone is going through different seasons. Sometimes we find ourselves in a similar season as someone else and we can bond over that. Other times we may feel completely alone, but come across a Facebook group with hundreds if not thousands of others who feel exactly like we do. It is nice to find and have mentors who are older than you to help share their wisdom on a season that happened to them that you are now going through. Remember as you talk to people that you do not have to find a solution to your storm, but find a way to live in these moments until the storm passes.

No matter if you choose to go through your storm alone or with people, remember that you are never truly alone. God is with you, and He is the best company to have around. He is ready to chat anytime as we pray, and He gives us the Bible filled with stories of people who have also lived through storms including Jesus.

“But now thus says the Lord, he who created you… “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you… For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.” – Isaiah 43: 1-3

“You can’t calm the storm… so stop trying. What you can do is calm yourself. The storm will pass.” – Timber Hawkeye

“Not all storms come to disrupt your life, some come to clear your path.” – unknown
