Do you have a creative outlet? Do you have a hobby that allows you to be creative? As someone who has a job that calls for creativity, I like to make sure that I have a creative outlet outside of my work.
I love that I get to teach dance! Growing up, dance was my favorite outlet. I was able to show up, go into the studio and forget about everything else that was happening in life. Creating that space for my dancers is the best thing ever.
Writing is another great outlet. I have multiple journals. I have “One Line A Day” that I use every day. I have “The Next Right Thing” that I use about once a week. I also use this blog as an outlet for my thoughts which I am touched that others enjoy reading. In my new job I get to write. It feels like a dream come true that I didn’t know I had. I hope to one day write a book, and the only way that is going to become a reality is to continue to write a little bit every day.
I also enjoy having projects to work on. Lately I have not been able to take on a big project. My last big project was painting my grandma’s bed set that I moved into my apartment. I have a few ideas on what my next project will be, but they are gift ideas so I will have to wait till they are done to share them.
You most likely have different creative outlets than I do. Dance, writing and projects/ painting are not for everyone. You may be able to be creative in your job, but what are you doing creatively at home? Using different avenues for creativity allows us to express different feelings and emotions. Setting aside the time to not have to think seriously about anything besides what is right in front of you is cleansing.
You may have to be creative about how you are going to be creative. Pick something that brings you joy. Try a few different things to see what you like to do. Start with something small or jump right into a big project. The best thing to remember is to finish what you started.
