What a whirlwind the last month has been! I just a month ago put in my two weeks at Starbucks, and have now completed two weeks of training at OST! Summer dance classes got off to a great start this week. Lifest is only two weeks away. Our Loeck Family VayCay 2.0 is only 6 weeks away. So much to look forward to, to plan, and to say no to.
Some of the things I have been staying consistent with as life is changing includes but is not limited to:
I started taking classes at Pure Barre in Appleton about once a week so that I can keep moving, take a class that I don’t have to teach, and to get me out of my apartment on my days off with no plans. I have really enjoyed it so far, and am excited to continue.
Along with taking classes for exercise, I have been going out for walks about every other day. Getting fresh air even on the crazy humid days has been good for my soul. It is nice to be inside, but there is just something about getting outside that feels refreshing.
My church has a Bible reading plan that I have been following as we read through three books of the Bible. I am right on track. Keeping up with reading the Bible, and taking at least one moment to pray each day has been helping me keep my priorities straight. I also have been keeping in touch with my friends who have prayed for me, and I them, as we see answers to our prayers.
During our family vacation, we are planning on seeing the Grand Canyon! I am so excited! I would really like to take a trip at least once a year to see mountains. I decided this last year after my trip to Denver, Colorado that I would be happy with life if I can just see some mountains at least once a year. – For some reason I could sit and look at the mountains for hours, but I do not enjoy unlimited time to sit on a beach starring at the ocean. Having a trip to look forward to is important to me.
Journaling has been a consistent part of my day in my ‘One Line a Day’ journal, and weekly in my ‘the Next Right Thing’ journal. I have many other journals, but these two I have been able to be consistent with.
Making time to read every couple of days is what has helped me get to the point of making change, go through the change, and come out on the other side of change with an open mind. ‘Remember God’ by Annie F. Downs, and ‘Growing Boldly’ by Emily Ley are the most recent books I have been reading.
Lastly, allowing myself to rest has also been important. Whether it is time to mentally check out and watch something on Netflix or making time to sit and not move – they have both been needed. Having time to rest physically and mentally has kept me healthy through this job transition. Listening to what my body needs whether it is moving or resting has been important to stay present in the moment and keep my energy levels up when needed.
You may find other things that help you keep your sanity when time seems to be moving fast, and that is good! What works for me is not 100% going to be what works for you. Take notice of what does work for you. Start small – I started taking classes once a month back in December at Aerial Dance in Green Bay before taking classes weekly at Pure Barre. I knew that I needed to start getting back into taking classes, but was not sure how to do it, but once a month seemed easy enough to start with. Last month I took a free intro class at Pure Barre, and I knew that since once a month was doable and enjoyable that once a week would be attainable. I may grow my goal into twice a week eventually, but I am going to make sure I can keep up with once a week for a while longer before committing to more classes.
I hope that you can take a look at what you enjoy having in your life, and make time to do just that. Make your own list. Talk to your friends and see what you can make plans for together. Finding a few things that can be consistent while life is busy will help keep you feel sane. Whether you start with exercise or having pizza for dinner on Sundays, taking a small step into consistency will change your life for the better. – you might already have some things you are doing consistently already. Make note of them and keep them going if it makes sense to you and brings you joy.
I pray that you are able to see some consistency in life as you go through this summer. Whether you have big life changes or not, setting some consistent boundaries will help for when things get even more wild. Be open to changing up what you are consistent with when you start to loose joy. Keep living life doing more of what makes you happy.
Cheers to finding consistency in the month, week, and every day ahead! – Em
